The Book Club went a special visit to the Stromness Library today. We had a tour of the new library and then read some books in the children's section of the library. Everyone was most impressed by the building and especially the comfy sofas upstairs.
We read a whole variety of things from board books to a really good book about 'Animal Antics'.
It was a most apt time to visit as it is Book Week Scotland this week.
Some photos of the visit will appear very soon!

The new build
It has been such a while since I got a post on here and I'd really like to add to this more regularly, especially with all the excitement of the new school build!
The contractor has been making good progress and I will be attending a meeting next week in relation to the outdoor spaces for the nursery and also the back playground. The Pupil Council have shared their ideas about what they think of the plan for this so far. The bairns perspective is always most valuable and after all it is the children who are going to be using the space.

Getting going again!
It has been far too long since I added to this blog so here goes!
We have had a busy start to this term with lots of exciting learning to look forward to. The nursery have really taken a keen interest in camping and climbing so we are looking for ways to develop their interests in this area further....Perhaps not the Old Man of Hoy yet though!
P1 and P2 have been working very hard on their addition skills since we came back and are really enjoying Study Ladder. If you have some time do log into this at home too.
Miss Logie's class have been exploring castles further and creating models. They will soon be moving to Ancient Egypt......A time machine would be useful here.
In Mrs Omand and Mrs McCairn's class the children have been writing some fabulous stories - I am really looking forward to reading the finished pieces. We are hoping to have an author visit later this term from Mike Nicholson for this class.
We will also have a number of events this term such as Fairtrade Fortnight and Red Nose Day to organise and participate in. Our school library is getting there - an on-going project.... If you have any ideas for creating a really engaging and interesting space please do share them!
And then there is the new build to look forward to getting off the ground this term! Certainly plenty to keep us all going!

Coming Soon....
In the next few weeks we will be raising awareness of Fairtrade Fortnight, celebrating World Book Day on 6th March and also participating in Sport Relief towards the end of March.
We will let you know in more detail what we are planning to do for all of these very soon.
Evie are the Peedie Schools Champions again!
Saturday brought an exciting conclusion to the Primary Indoor League as Evie were playing to maintain the Shore Shield. It really was down to the last night with an exciting game against Hope and Burray Hotspurs who were also in contention!
Fortunately, the Evie team beat the Hotspurs and went on to win the tournament based on the other games played by the teams that night.
It was a very exciting finish to the season! Well done to the team and a special thank you to Paul Barber the team coach for all his time, enthusiasm and commitment.

Getting going again!
It has been a while since I wrote on here and will get back into a pattern again very soon. It has been an exceptionally busy start to the year with one thing and another and I have been doing quite a lot of class teaching between the schools.
Anyhow, we have lots of exciting things coming up from Fairtrade Fortnight to World Book Day this term.
We also have the on-going development of the new build to be involved with.
Our library is also ready for a revamp with many old titles being removed from circulation. We may need to call on parent helpers with that initiative in hte not too distant future.
Miss Rendall finished with us last week and Mrs McCairn is ready to take the P6/7 class full-time until Mrs Omand returns later in the session. We wish her all the best in her new post.

Save The Children Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas Dinner
What a super turnout of festive jumpers we had on Friday! I was really impressed with the effort that so many of the children had went to and there were many wonderful creations. I will let you know what our donations amounted to and post some photos in due course.
We also had our school Christmas dinner this week. Well done to Jackie and Sally for creating such a good dinner for everyone, although I was most vexed at having to miss it myself this year.
Well into the last week now - The Christmas party is on Thursday with a special visitor coming on Friday hopefully!
